Top Ten Activist Videos of 2008: A. Fine Video Awards!
Posted by Allison Fine on December 23, 2008
At long last, the wait is over! Here are the top ten activist videos of2008 and recipients of the very prestigious A. Fine Video Awards. These videos were nominated and chosen by a panel of distinguished — well, OK, just me in true participatory fashion! These videos are not necessarily the most viewed, they were chosen because I think they are very effective in sharing a message, highlighting an important issue or providing visceral evidence of abuse that would not have otherwise been captured. I’m open to nominations as well – although they will have to be reviewed and approved by the entire A. Fine Video Awards committee as well. OK, enough waiting, here they are:
- Hope for the Holidays from the Movement Vision Lab
- Celebrating 60 Years of Human Rights from Witness
- Stop the Clash 08 – Stop the Obsession from Avaaz as a follow up to their extraordinary 2007 version,

Thanks Allison for including the WITNESS “What Image Opened Your Eyes to Human Rights” video we whipped up to start a conversation in honor of the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
These are all great examples of how video/ online media can promote engagement in social change!

Thanks for this great list, Allison! I thought I’d share some of my favorite immigrant-rights related videos from this year:
Thru the Plexiglass (I’m biased…):
One Immigrant’s Story
Arivaca: Life on the Border
Immigration Myths and Cable News
CHIRLA Know Your Rights Video
Also a great one by AFSC The Cost of War
Here’s to even more winning video content in 2009!
